Oranje Wins by Default!

Some things are worth fighting for / some feelings never die / I'm not askin' for another chance / I just wanna know why. - Robert Tepper

Those famous words were never so true or famous for The Flying Dutchmen than they were last night.  As Vanna Vong sadly walked to the bench to serve his 2 minutes for hooking in the dying minutes of last nights 5-3 win,  many on the Dutchmen bench screamed in protest.  Especially since replays confirmed that it was Wesco's forward, Thuan D, and not Vanna Vong, who'd done the holding.  With each second that passed, they got closer to winning the battle.  Small comfort considering the war was probably lost the moment that penalty was called.

"I didn't hold onto his shaft," a fully worked up Vong said in the gym immediately following the match, "but man, he was grabbing at mine all night."

Many on the bench might as well have been singing that classic Robert Tepper track quoted above, from the classic album "Rocky IV - Original Soundtrack"
"I definitely think it's something worth bringing up with the league, that yellow card."  said defenseman Graham Cuthbertson. "That game didn't even count, so for them to take away points in the standings just doesn't seem right."

In the post-game scrum, forward David Wheaton threw up his hands after being asked his opinion on the officiating. "Look, lady, I'm not askin' for another chance, I just wanna know why.  Robert Tepper said that."

We're not indestructible / baby better get that straight / I think it's unbelievable / how you give into the hands of fate. - Robert Tepper

The Bard would have been hitting the nail on the head if he'd written that line from "Ain't no easy way out" after watching the game last night.  It was the second in a series of back to backs played out consecutively in one night, the first having been cancelled when The Juice team failed to show up.  Presumably, since they're out of playoff contention, they felt no need to play.  Even if it's as spoiler to the Dutchmen who fight for the last playoff spot like one of three fat men trying to squeeze through a small door.  Like one of three Alfred Hitchcocks making a triple cameo, trying to squeeze through a small door in the background after eating a triple fudge sundae.  Injured/retired defenceman Andre Dion, watching from the pressbox, scoffed at The Juice for their absences in recent weeks. "Whatever, they pay to play, just like the rest of us.  It's their own money they're wasting.  I mean, look at the boys out there!  It's a free practice.  And it's coming at the perfect time, right before playoffs.  Hey, man, imagine having that kind of chance the night before prom night if you're a virgin!  No questions asked.  I just hope they don't get too tired for the second game."

There were casualties perhaps brought on by exhaustion. Wheaton hobbled to the bench, favouring his recently broken ankle after cutting hard to the net, tripping over the goalie's paddle.

"Yeah, it feels like it's broken in 7 or eight places.  I probably shouldn't tell you guys in the press, but it really hurts and I just keep wrapping it tight and playing anyway.  That's why I'm so slow out there and lose my balance sometimes.  I'm not tired at all.  Never tired.  I'll have it looked at after we win the cup."

When asked if Vong would actually receive the yellow card after what some call a questionable call, Referee "Angel" said "It's the same with every penalty.  I always give the yellow card," and, after pausing for thought, "except for sliding penalties.  No yellow card for that."
