Le Retour du Roy

Roy caught attacking Paparazzi on Crescent st.

The Dutchmen have finally signed Defenceman Alain Roy for the coming season. "Je suis tellement heureux de me joindre aux Dutchmen!" said Roy, to hordes of fans and media.  No official word on the terms of the deal.  The figures being mentioned on Twitter range from 5.2 to 6.5 tens of dollars.  A cap hit of 60 Dollars would leave the Dutchmen with Twelve players under contract and about one Buck of space, which will probably end up being a drummer.

In recent weeks, the team has been trying to lock up Roy, who had spent the summer playing rec hockey.  He hung up his oranje sneakers last spring, after having been ousted in the first two rounds of the playoffs.  At the time, he vowed he would never play again for the Dutchmen, for a couple of months.
After a thrilling playoff run, last season, where the Dutchmen ousted the top ranked team before falling in the final to the perennial favourites The Marines, management set their sights on the power defenceman Roy, who, despite being 6'8'' and a regular in the penalty box, always seemed to be able to put up great point totals, often through sheer intimidation, strength and fearlessness. He will take his place as a top six defenceman, possibly being paired up with Frederic Bouchard, or Joachim Gadbois. "Moi, j'ai aucune probleme avec ca." said a smiling Gadbois.  Bouchard, who switched to forward with the Dutchmen last season, has stated his desire to go back to playing defense, should Roy return.  His pairing with Roy had been very successful, in the past. "I can play defence, originally I was a defenceman." said Fred.
Lately, rumours of limited cap space have been bandied about in the media.  Some reports actually had Roy considering a career in ice hockey, because the Dutchmen had lost interest. "That's a lot of nonsense." growled Matt Maxham, "(Everyone knows) we need that big shot from the point!"
Alain is a founding member of the Flying Dutchmen Hockey Club.  As the longest serving captain on the team, Alain put up great numbers in the original, eight team league.  Unfortunately, these numbers have been lost.
